About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, West Ham United secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The result was somewhat unexpected, given Tottenham's home advantage and their recent form, which saw them enter the match with a solid run of performances. However, West Ham's resilience and tactical execution proved decisive. The match began with West Ham taking an early lead through Crysencio Summerville (GAP -3.1%), who found the net in the 15th minute. Tottenham responded with increased pressure, and their efforts were rewarded in the 64th minute when Cristian Romero (GAP +1.9%) equalized, giving the home fans hope of a comeback. As the game approached its conclusion, West Ham introduced Callum Wilson from the bench, a move that paid off handsomely. Wilson scored the winning goal in the 90th minute, sealing a crucial victory for the visitors. Tactically, Tottenham made three changes to their lineup, bringing in Ben Davies (GAP -1.6%), Archie Gray, and Wilson Odobert, while Rodrigo Bentancur, Joao Palhinha, and Djed Spence were left out. These changes were part of a rotation strategy, possibly influenced by injuries and suspensions, as Tottenham dealt with several key absences, including James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. West Ham, on the other hand, made a single change, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka (GAP +0.4%) coming into the side. This adjustment was likely a tactical decision by the head coach to bolster the defense. Pedro Porro (GAP +3.5%) and Guglielmo Vicario (GAP +3.0%) were notable performers for Tottenham, contributing significantly to their team's efforts. However, it was Taty Castellanos (GAP +5.4%) who stood out for West Ham, providing a robust presence throughout the match. This victory propels West Ham further up the league table, enhancing their momentum as they continue to challenge for a higher position. Tottenham, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities to maintain their push for European qualification.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
